New to the franchise process? Here are answers to the questions we hear most often.
01
What is a Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD)?
⌄
An FDD is a legal document that federal law (the FTC Franchise Rule) requires franchisors to provide to prospective franchisees before any agreement is signed or money changes hands. It contains 23 standardized Items covering everything about the franchise system.
02
How long do I have to review my FDD before I can sign?
⌄
Federal law requires a minimum 14-calendar-day waiting period after you receive the FDD before you can sign any agreement or pay any fees. Some states require even longer review periods.
03
Do I have to sign the FDD itself?
⌄
No. You sign a receipt page confirming you received the FDD on a specific date. This starts your 14-day review clock. The Franchise Agreement is a separate document signed later.
04
What happens after I sign the receipt?
⌄
Your 14-day review period officially begins. We strongly encourage you to share the FDD with a franchise attorney and accountant. After the review period, if you're ready to proceed, you'll sign the Franchise Agreement.
05
What if my state is not showing as active on the map?
⌄
Certain states require franchisors to complete a separate registration process. If your state appears gray, we are likely in the registration process. Contact our franchise team directly — in many cases we can begin preliminary conversations while registration is finalized.
This information does not constitute an offer to sell, or the solicitation of an offer to buy, a franchise. The offer to sell a franchise can only be made through the delivery of a Franchise Disclosure Document. We will not offer or sell a franchise in registration states until we have registered the franchise and delivered the FDD to the prospective franchisee in compliance with applicable law.
